ABOUT HELEN ANDRÉ ART

Helen André’s large colourful figurative artworks recollect a time when, as children, we had the curiosity to stop and stare.

Born in Berlin in 1971, Helen had a varied education, including a village school in Norway and a Catholic convent school in Sussex. She then embarked on an equally unconventional career, including environmental journalism and the crazy world of film shoots.

When her eldest child was a baby, Helen started evening classes in botanical art and has never looked back. Following the completion of a diploma with the UK’s Society of Botanical Artists, she initially worked in watercolours. Helen gained a love for the beauty of imperfection as a reflection of the human condition, such as an ageing sunflower and misshapen carrots. But oil paints called her, and she couldn’t resist.

Today, she shares her Sussex home with a neurodiverse family, two cats rescued from a brothel and a tortoise.
